1/2" General Purpose Foam is an Industry standard grade for general purpose upholstery. Polyurethane foam is a 1 lb/cubic foot density foam, with a compression of 28-34 lbs. Mostly used in seat backs, padding and bolstering. Not recommended for seating. .

Content: 100% Polyurethane

Density: 1 lb.

Compression: Under ASTM D-3574-05 is 28 - 34 pounds. Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) under ASTM D-3574-05 is a compression test to test how many pounds it takes to compress a 4" x 15" x 15" sample 25% using a 50 square inch round deflector device.

Fire Retardancy: Passes California Bulletin TB117-2013

Width: 54"

Put Up: 16 yards.

Sold per running yard.

Q: Why is it not recommended for seating?

A: It is a less dense foam than upholstery foam. This means it would compress too much to be a good upholstery foam.

Q: Is this good for crafts or should I get the sewing foam?

A: Hi Elaine,

This is typically used for general purpose upholstery, but can be used in crafting like bag making. It doesn't have the scrim on it like sewing foam though, so it would depend on your application, if it would work for you.
